Swimming Pool Pet Safety Tips

Swimming Pool Pet Safety

As enjoyable as owning a pool can be, safety should always be the main concern. While many people consider how to keep their children safe around the pool, they fail to consider how they will keep their pets safe. Taking these precautions and implementing these swimming pool pet safety tips could help prevent an accident from occurring.

Invest In A Pool Cover

A pool cover is one of the quickest, easiest ways to prevent your pets from going into the pool. Pool covers are retractable and can be taken on or off in less than a minute. Pool covers will also not only keep your pets out, but they can keep unwanted rodents out. They can also prevent your children from falling in. Additionally, pool covers can retain solar heat and can reduce your pool’s heating bill.

Set Up A Fence

If a cover isn’t for you, another method to keep pets out is by installing a fence around the perimeter of your pool. As long as you remember always to lock the gate, you should not have a problem with your pets finding their way to your pool. Fences do not have to be ugly eyesores that take away from the aesthetics of your backyard, either. Your pool contractor should be able to blend a fence into your landscape seamlessly.

Add A Pool Alarm

Pool alarms can be set up to alert you if someone or something has unknowingly entered the pool. If the water’s surface is broken, the alarm will sound, hopefully giving you enough time to make it outside and rescue your pet. Although you can program your alarm to be on or off during certain hours of the day, you’ll have to remember to turn it off when you swim.

If you do choose to purchase a pool alarm, it may be in your best interest to make your neighbors aware. A pool alarm will do no good if you are not home. If your neighbors know about the alarm, they may be able to save your pet when you’re not able to.

In addition to the above swimming pool pet safety tips, it’s best to always be careful with pets around.
