As Florida homeowners, the hot summer sun is something with which we are all too familiar. Not only can the sun be an inconvenience, but it can be dangerous as well if you do not take the proper precautions. If you own a pool in Florida but find that it is often too hot during the summer to enjoy it during the day, you may want to consider a few of these tools to add poolside shade.
Pergolas Or Gazebos
Pergolas and gazebos are both great ways to protect you from the Florida sun while sitting around your pool. Pergolas are structures that operate as overhangs, in that there is no floor. They can be placed over your existing seating area easily. They also have slots between the rafters, so you’ll likely need to add a shade or vegetation if you wish to stay cool. Gazebos, on the other hand, are structures with covered roofs and floors.
With both pergolas and gazebos, you can choose to purchase a pre-built structure, or you can have a structure customized so that it better fits into your existing pool design.
There are numerous different pergola design options available, including
- Traditional Pergolas, basic designs built of stained wood
- Artisan Pergolas, which features a cedar top that sits upon elegant columns
- Arched Pergolas, which have a curved overhang
- Santa Fe Pergolas, which have a lighter stain and fit southwestern architecture schemes
Gazebo design options include
- Pavilions, which come in an octagon shape
- Victorians, which feature many intricate details
A retractable enclosure is ideal for those who wish to use their pool year-round. Not only will it help block out the sun, but it will also keep the rain and wind out as well. However, you can retract them in a matter of minutes. If you’re hosting a party, retracting the enclosure can provide much more space in your backyard.
Shade sails have grown in popularity over the past few years because of their unique and innovative designs. They are very aesthetically-pleasing and functional. Of the three options, they are the easiest to install for poolside shade.
